NAMES ON CAMPUS/VIRGINIA TECH

DAVID R. FORD, associate vice president for facilities, will become vice president for instruction and dean of the faculty at Vincennes University in southwestern Indiana.

Ford, who oversees the physical plant, facilities planning and construction and public safety, health and transportation, begins his new job Aug. 1.

He will serve as the college's chief academic officer and will report all personnel matters directly to the president.

\ SUSAN L. WILEY, formerly a marketing specialist for the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services in Roanoke, has been named asspecial events coordinator at the Donaldson Brown Center for Continuing Education. She will be responsible for planning and organizing special events and food functions for departments within the university.

\ SCOTT POOLE, assistant professor of architecture, was awarded a grant from the Carl G. and Rikke Fredriksen Barth Fund in the American-Scandinavian Foundation to gather research for a book he is writing on new architecture in Finland. The book will be published by Rizzoli Publishers in New York City.

\ PAUL M. GHERMAN, director of university libraries, was elected to the board of trustees of the Online Computer Library Center for a six-year term beginning in January 1991.

\ HUMBERTO RODRIGUEZ-CAMILLONI, associate professor of architecture, has been invited by the Library of Congress to serve as contributing editor for the "Art: Colonial: Spanish South America" chapter of volume 52 of the Handbook of Latin American Studies.

\ H. JOHN GERKEN JR., a professor and Extension animal scientist, was recognized by the American Forage and Grassland Council with a merit certificate. The certificate is awarded to individuals in education, science or private industry who have made outstanding contributions to some phase of forage and grassland agriculture. This award recognized Gerken's thorough understanding and concern for producers' problems. He has also been the leader in a large project in Southwest Virginia to develop strip mined land for productive purposes and helped form the Virginia Forage and Grassland Council.

\ SCOTT B. CARR, extension scientist in the Dairy Science Department, received the 1990 Merit Award from the Virginia Forage and Grassland Council. The award was presented for outstanding educational programs promoting the production and feeding of high quality forages and for dedicated service to the forage industry. Carr has worked at the university since 1967.

Students of the Pamplin College of Business were recognized at the college's Honors Day Banquet, sponsored by Beta Gamma Sigma, the national business honor fraternity. New inductees are:

\ PATRICIA MARIE HOLUB, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Holub of Blacksburg, is a junior majoring in accounting.

\ VICTOR P. MILLS JR., of Blacksburg, who graduated with an M.B.A. in May, has held a graduate assistantship and an instructional scholarship.

\ KIM O'ROURKE, of Blacksburg, is a part-time accounting student who is also employed as an executive secretary in the dean's office of the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

\ JENNIFER K. POFF, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur L. Poff Jr. of Christiansburg, is a junior marketing major who has held such credits as the Pamplin Merit Scholarship and been named to the dean's list.

\ JAMES KIRBY PRICE, son of Mary Price of New Castle, graduated in May with a bachelor of science in management science. He is listed in "Outstanding College Students of America."

\ MARY ROBERTSON GREER, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Richard L. Robertson of Radford, graduated in May with a Bachelor of Science in accounting.

Other outstanding members recognized by Beta Gamma Sigma were:

\ JULIA J.Y. TU, daughter of Ko Y. Tu of Blacksburg and the late Dr. Kam Ping Tu, graduated magna cum laude in May with a bachelor of science in accounting information systems. She is a member of several honoraries, worked for the Collegiate Times and was a member of the Virginia Tech Chinese-American Society and the Jugglers' Club.

\ BRIAN D. PETERS, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Peters of Floyd, graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor of science in accounting. He was a member of several honoraries, received the 1989 Faculty and 1990 Alumni scholarships and will attend graduate school at Tech in tax accounting.

\ BELA FOLTIN, assistant director for public services and collection development, and\ PAUL METZ, principal bibliographer, co-authored "A Social History of Madness - Or, Who's Buying this Round? Anticipating and Avoiding Gaps in Collection Development," which was published in College and Research Libraries.

A report by\ W. DAVID CONN, chairman of the doctoral program, and\ WILLIAM OWENS, adjunct faculty member in the college, entitled "Communicating with the Public About Hazardous Materials: An Examination of Local Practice," was published by the Environmental Protection Agency.
