Lt. Doug Marrs said that Michael Cox, 21, was arrested last week and charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny.
A woman living on Montague Street said in a statement to police that she saw a man matching the suspect's description going door to door in her neighborhood April 17.
He knocked on her door and when she answered, he ran away into nearby trees, the woman told police.
The next day, the woman left her house for about four hours. When she returned, she found the back door kicked in and $375 and some jewelry missing.
Cox has been held in the Radford jail since June 16 on four unrelated theft charges in that city, said Radford City Sheriff's Department Maj. Thomas Lavelle.
His bond is set at $11,000.
Cox was scheduled for a preliminary hearing Monday in Radford.
Another prelimary hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Christiansburg.
