STRIKING DRIVER FOUND INNOCENT OF JACKROCK CHARGE

A striking Greyhound bus driver was acquitted Monday of charges that he tossed a jackrock under the tires of a bus at the Roanoke terminal.

Larry Joe Gore of Vinton was found not guilty in Roanoke Circuit Court.

Gore and at least five fellow pickets disputed an account by a bus driver who said Gore tossed something under the bus moments before a tire went flat the morning of April 2.

Prosecutors contended that Gore had tossed a jackrock - a sharpened piece of metal with barbs designed to point upwards and puncture tires.

Earlier this year, Gore was convicted of destruction of property and was fined $100 in General District Court. He appealed that verdict to Circuit Court.

The incident was one of the few reported problems at the terminal since the strike against Greyhound began March 2. A judge who issued an injunction limiting picketing has praised the strikers for their compliance.
