\ James Defond Smith, age 50, of 4974 Florist Rd., N. W., died at his home Tuesday, July 17, 1990. He was a retired employee of Bonanza Family Restaurants and was a son of the late Charles R. and Margaret S. Smith. He is survived by his wife, Patricia S. Smith; two daughters, Stephanie L. Smith and Shannan Y. Smith, both of Roanoke; one son, James D. Smith, II, Pulaski; one stepson, Jeffrey C. McCoy, Roanoke; one brother, Charles R. Smith, Fayetteville, N. C.; three sisters, Patsy J. Wright, Pulaski; Tamara L. Thompson, Richmond; and Rebecca Sue Epperly, Raleigh, N. C. Friends may call at Oakey's North Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and from the Riffe's Funeral Home, Narrows, Va., from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday. Funeral and burial will be in Narrows on Friday.
