W.VA. MAN INDICTED IN WYTHE BREAK-INS

A 24-year-old Mercer County, W.Va., man has been indicted by a Wythe County grand jury on charges of taking part in two of the many break-ins that occurred in Southwest Virginia almost two years ago.

Jackie Allen Hurt was indicted in two break-ins in the Country Club Estates section of Wytheville. He and two other West Virginia men, David Hubbard, 33, and Thomas Robert Sparks, 34, were charged about 1 1/2 years ago in a series of break-ins occurring in 1988, but the others have not been indicted on any of the charges.

The three also face burglary and theft charges in Blacksburg and Bluefield, Va., and in Beckley, Oak Hill and Bluefield, W.Va. Authorities say the men are believed to be part of a theft ring operating along Interstates 81 and 77 in the two states. The various jurisdictions are taking their turns in prosecuting their break-in cases.
