DEPOT ARTISTS LEASE FORMER FREIGHT STATION

The newly formed Depot Artists Association has signed a lease with the town of Abingdon to occupy the town-owned former freight station on Depot Square.

The association is a non-profit corporation made up of the former William King Artists' Association and the Abingdon Arts Alliance.

It began renovating the old freight station this week, and planned to move artists into the building by the end of August. The depot will have artists working in studios and a featured artist gallery displaying works of individual artists.

There also will be a co-op gallery serving as a continuing showcase for local and regional artists. The Branson School of Ballet will be located in the building and, starting next year, the juried art show of the annual Virginia Highlands Festival will be located in the depot galleries.
