$23,561 IS APPROVED FOR ROAD

The Giles County Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to spend $23,561 to upgrade Farley Circle Road. The board's recommendation will be passed on to the Virginia Department of Transportation, which will be responsible for both improving and maintaining the road, which now has many dangerous potholes in it.

The board also resolved to pay off $9,593.44 in delinquent ambulance fees.

The debt arose from users of the ambulance service who have been unable to pay their debts due to financial hardships.

Several board members, however, said that the county has a moral obligation to provide police, fire and ambulance services when they are needed.

In other matters, Jerolyn Deplazes was reappointed to the New River Community Services Board, and a bingo permit was granted to the Eggleston Fire Department.
