Olivia Harrison, chairwoman of the Romanian Angel Appeal, invited Madonna to join her husband, former Beatle George Harrison, and his fellow ex-Beatle Ringo Starr at a Hyde Park Hotel luncheon to introduce the record "Nobody's Child."
But Madonna, who is staying at the hotel, went for a run in the park surrounded by eight burly bodyguards. She was followed by a posse of reporters, photographers and fans.
Proceeds from the record will provide food and clothing and improve training and care at orphanages in Romania, Harrison said.
Walt Disney pinched pennies to open Disneyland, but it paid off for Art Linkletter.
Money was so tight in 1955 that Linkletter was paid only union scale to be host of a one-hour telecast of the theme park's opening in Anaheim, Calif.
However, the radio and TV star ["Kids Say the Darndest Things"] said he persuaded Disney to throw in an extra that repaid him handsomely - concession booths for film and cameras. He had the concession for 10 years.
"It was the highest-priced performance any performer, I'm sure, ever got, considering the worth of that - a couple of million dollars," Linkletter said after a ceremony celebrating Disneyland's 35th anniversary.
Arnold Schwarzenegger will represent President Bush at Saturday's opening of the Goodwill Games in Seattle.
Schwarzenegger, who stars in the hit movie "Total Recall," is chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness.
The games are an international athletics competition. The first Goodwill Games were held in Moscow four years ago.
