TWO STABBINGS, SHOOTING OCCUR WITHIN HOURS

Roanoke police are investigating two stabbings and a shooting that happened within an 80-minute span early Wednesday.

Police gave the following account of the unrelated incidents:

At 12:10 a.m., a group of men and a woman approached Bobby Lee Hobbs of Vinton at a telephone booth on the 1200 block of Jamison Avenue Southeast.

One of the group members stabbed Hobbs in the neck, police said. Authorities said Hobbs, 25, was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where he was treated and released.

At 12:50 a.m., a man was shot twice in the leg as he got out of a car on the 1800 block of Dupree Street in the Lincoln Terrace housing project.

Kevin Dickerson, 19, of Abbott Street Northwest, told police he heard several shots before realizing that he had been hit in the right leg.

Dickerson drove himself to Community Hospital, where he was treated and released. He told police that he did not know who could have fired the shots or why.

At 1:30 a.m., Toby Deland Simpson was stabbed in the hip during an argument with his girlfriend at his home on the 800 block of Day Avenue Southwest.

Police said the argument began after Simpson came home and woke up the couple's 8-month-old daughter. Simpson, 20, was treated and released by Community Hospital.
