The span reopened for restricted one-way traffic at 6 a.m., one day earlier than scheduled but with a ban on pedestrian use.
Traffic had been limited to pedestrians since May 12, one day after an over-height piece of logging equipment being hauled on a truck bent and broke critical overhead support beams on the bridge.
The bridge closing has been particularly inconvenient to workers from Chesapeake Corp.'s paper mill in West Point. Most workers who live on the King and Queen County side of the bridge had to park their cars near the bridge and walk across it to get to and from their jobs.
