SALEM HIRES CONTRACTOR FOR WORK AT G.W. CARVER

The Salem School Board hired a contractor last Friday to work with architects, engineers and a school system representative on modifications to the restrooms at G.W. Carver Elementary School and on the addition of ventilation and pipe insulation in classrooms at the school.

The contractor, from R.L. Price Construction Co. in Roanoke, will be paid $6,000 for his services.

Improvements to Carver have been targeted in the school system's five-year capital improvement program. The school system is considering three options for Carver: total renovation; using the building for another purpose and building additional space at other schools to handle the increase in student population; or razing the building and building a new school.
