The British band will perform at the Roanoke Civic Center Aug. 2. Snap, a Euro-soul group rooted in West Germany's club scene, will also be on the bill.
Soul II Soul's platinum debut album, "Keep on Movin'," produced the mega-hits "Back to Life" and the title track. It made the group one of 1989's most noteworthy new acts. The debut album also gave Soul II Soul two Grammy awards this year: rhythm and blues group or duo performance for "Back to Life" and R&B instrumental performance for "African Dance."
The group recently released its second album, "Vol. II - 1990 - A New Decade."
Snap, based in Stuttgart, West Germany, has also found success on American airwaves. Its single "The Power," already dubbed a "club classic" in a Musician magazine review, is No. 2 on Billboard magazine's rap singles chart this week after three weeks at No. 1.
General admission tickets for the show are $18.50 and available at the Roanoke Civic Center ticket office, 981-1201.
