BEDFORD COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD PICKS CHAIRMAN

Lorenza E. Davis was elected chairman of the Bedford County School Board Thursday night, succeeding the Rev. Hunter B. Hale Jr., who became the new vice chairman.

They were elected at the board's organizational meeting for the 1990-91 fiscal year.

Davis, vice president of Young Moving & Storage Co., in Lynchburg, recently was reappointed to a second four-year term on the board.

He was the board's vice chairman two years ago.

Hale has been on the School Board for seven years. He is pastor of Norwood Baptist Church at Forest. As vice chairman he succeeds Robert E. Johnson.

Superintendent John A. Kent announced that Bedford's 20 schools would open on Sept. 4 for the 1990-91 term and will close on June 12. Enrollment for the next term is expected to be about 8,100.

New teachers are to report for work on Aug. 23 and returning teachers on Aug. 27.
