CHUCK BERRY FACES DRUG, ABUSE CHARGES

Authorities charged rock 'n' roll great Chuck Berry with child abuse and possession of marijuana based on evidence seized in a raid on his home last month.

Three charges of child abuse allege that Berry, 63, made films of nude youths under age 17 for sexual gratification. A fourth charge alleged possession of more than 35 grams of marijuana.

William Hannah, St. Charles County prosecutor, announced the charges Thursday. His office said he wouldn't comment further.

Berry's telephone number is unlisted and calls to the office of Berry's attorney, Wayne Schoeneberg, went unanswered Thursday.
