REMAINS OF SOLIDER KILLED IN LAOS RETURNED

The family of U.S. Army Lt. Alan B. Boffman is awaiting the return of his remains 19 years after he was killed in a helicopter crash in Laos during the Vietnam War.

"When he passed away, I was just 18 months old and didn't have the slightest idea what was going on," said his 20-year-old daughter, Carla Boffman, a senior at Hampton University.

The Pentagon announced Wednesday the identification of the remains as Boffman's. Two sets of remains were recovered in January at the crash site by a joint U.S.-Laotian excavation team.

Alan Boffman, 24 at the time of the crash, was listed as missing in action after the crash during an emergency landing in southern Laos on March 18, 1971. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, Alan Boffman received his degree from Norfolk State University in 1969.

The other body was identified as Capt. Keith A. Brandt of Bellingham, Wash. Brandt was 30 at the time of the crash.
