Earlier this year, Franklin County was asked to move public trash bins from a site it was leasing on U.S. 220, a mile south of the Boones Mill town limits.
And that meant area residents had to drive almost to Rocky Mount to dispose of their garbage.
After months of searching, Assistant County Administrator John Lester said he may have found a landowner willing to donate a new site for trash bins near Boones Mill. Lester declined to identify the site until the deal is completed in the next few weeks.
Boone District Supervisor Homer Murray was relieved to hear that a possible site had been found.
"I've taken a big beatin' on it," Murray said. "Everybody wants one, but nobody wants one close to them."
