Louise Houston Alexander, age 89, died July 20, 1990 at a Lexington hospital. She was born in Rockbridge County on May 18, 1901, the daughter of the late William and Frances E. Houston. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Patton Alexander, and a daughter, Agnes Patton Echols. Surviving are two daughters, Miss Ann Eliza Alexander, and Mrs. Houston A. Close, both of Fairfield; one sister, Mrs. George H. Sheild, Harrisonburg; seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Mrs. Alexander was a past president of the Natural Bridge Garden Club, the Rockbridge Historical Society, the Lexington Women's Club, the Women's Auxiliary of the VA Horticultural Society, and was a member of many other organizations. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday July 24, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery by the Rev. Phillip Roberts. The family will receive friends and family at the home Sunday afternoon. Arrangements are being handled by the Lomax Funeral Home in Buena Vista.
