- Mrs. Frances Slaydon Campbell, age 78, of Roanoke, died Thursday evening in a local hospital. She was the late widow of Clarence R. Campbell (Former Assistant Treasurer of the Norfolk & Western Railway) and an active member of Wavery Place Baptist Church. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Frank R. and Janet Campbell, Danville; a daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Richard Duncan, Salem; five grandchildren and their spouses, Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Cathy) Burgess, Danville; Mr. and Mrs. Ibrahim (Donna) Burki, Durham, N.C.; Mr. and Mrs. David (Karen) Duncan, Burke; Mr. Gregory Duncan, Covington; Miss Kate Duncan, Salem; four great-grandchildren, Jessica Burgess, Melissa Burgess, Amanda Duncan, Ross Burki; two sisters, Mrs. John (Elsie) King, Roanoke; Mrs. Francis (Margaret) Shockey, Copper Hill; a brother, Robert "Toby" Slaydon, Roanoke; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Monday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Burial Park. Friends may call at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
