Goldie Anne Adams, 35, died at the scene of the accident on Virginia 614, about a mile east of the intersection with Virginia 71.
Adams' daughter - who was wearing a seat belt - escaped injury. The child's name was not released.
Trooper J.D. Stiltner said the car driven by Goldie Adams ran off the right side of the roadway, crossed back over the pavement and struck an embankment.
Adams was partially ejected when the vehicle rolled over. "My estimation is that a seat belt would at least have spared her life," said Stiltner, who investigated the 4:45 p.m. accident.
The state police reported two other weekend fatalities in single-car accidents in Southwest Virginia:
Dennis Wesley Dorton, 29, of Bristol was killed at 9:05 p.m. Saturday on Virginia 647 in Washington County. Dorton was not wearing a seat belt, according to a report released by a state police dispatcher in Wytheville.
Ralph Woodrow Stiltner, 27, of Grundy was killed at 2:45 a.m. Sunday on Virginia 83 in Buchanan County. Stiltner was driving a car that was traveling fast, left the roadway and struck a tree. The dispatcher had no information on other passengers in the car. The victim was not related to Trooper Stiltner.
Two Richmond teen-agers and a Williamston, N.C., couple were killed Sunday in a collision on Interstate 95 two miles north of Jarratt in sussex County. The teen-agers were heading north when their car went out of control, crossed the median, and struck the southbound vehicle carrying the North Carolina couple.
