New president John T. Casteen is scheduled to move into the house Friday.
Work on the mansion includes a $120,000 replacement of the 19th-century slate roof, an exterior paint job, repairs to interior walls and new carpeting, said university spokeswoman Louise Dudley.
A whirlpool bath is being installed in the president's second-story bathroom for about $2,000, Dudley said. The tub and the decorating changes are being paid for with private funds, she said.
Outgoing president Robert M. O'Neil said the repairs to the mansion, which he vacated a month ago, are long overdue. He said leaks in the roof had caused water damage.
O'Neil said the whirlpool bath is for treatment of a back ailment.
Ronald Shirley, a university physical plant administrator, said some of the work will not be completed until late August. Casteen begins his new duties on Aug. 1.
