SHOWALTER, MARGARET R.

Margaret Ruth Showalter, age 88, died at her home, July 23, 1990. After completing her education in Alleghany County she came to New Castle as legal secretary for the late Senator G. W. Layman, and for 69 years resided in the Layman home. In addition to her secretarial position, she served in many capacities most notably as the Commissioner of Accounts for Craig County. She is preceded in death by eight brothers, Charles R., Samuel, Lloyd W., Elvy R., Joseph Y., Perry D., Colin and Carl E. Showalter; three sisters, Della Morris, Masil Peters, Virginia Showalter. She is survived by Kate Layman of New Castle, a friend of many years; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at New Castle United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Breeden officiating and Bobby Lugar, Paul Layman, Larry Layman, Otis Payne, Richard Showalter, and Raydean Showalter serving as pallbearers. Interment will be in Ross Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Boitnott Funeral Home Tuesday from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Castle United Methodist Church, Craig County Rescue Squad, or Craig County Fire Department.
