KOREAN WAR MEMORIAL FUND SEEKS DONATIONS

I wish to make a donation to the Korean Veterans' War Memorial. What's the address? - Harriet Smith, Roanoke

A: Send donations to the Korean Veterans' War Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 2372, Washington, D.C. 20013-2372.

"Our goal is approximately $12 million, and we're about halfway there," said Bill Russell, a volunteer with the organization.

Russell said legislation passed in 1986 gives the group five years, or until mid-1991, to raise money for the memorial.

"If we haven't raised the money by that time, we have to return the funds to the donors," Russell said.

The board is trying to raise additional money through a commemorative coin, he said. "We're trying to obtain the necessary sponsors from the House and the Senate to get legislation on the floor concerning a bill for a Korean War veterans commemorative coin, that would be produced and sold by the U.S. Mint. We would get a portion of the return."

For more information on the fund, call the board at (202) 208-3561.
