If approved, the grant would be combined with $178,000 in local funds and more than $2.3 million from other sources.
One part of the project would be to support a new manufacturing facility producing steel roof-support systems for underground mining, which would start with 55 employees. The other involves water, sewer, an access road and parking area for a 27-acre county-owned site to serve as a potential location for new industry.
The commission also is seeking three other grants:
A $25,000 planning grant from the Virginia Community Development Block Grant program for Lebanon, for a study of housing needs in the North Church Street and Cleveland Road parts of town.
A similar planning grant of $19,650 for Cedar Bluff for the Middle Creek community.
An $18,600 planning grant for Richlands for a preliminary engineering report on water service to the Big Creek area.
