TEXAS LURES AWAY VA. TOURISM OFFICIAL

Margaret Lesniak, assistant director of the Virginia Division of Tourism, has outlasted 96 applicants to be chosen the new director of the Texas Division of Tourism.

Lesniak, 42, a native Virginian, will direct an international and domestic tourism marketing program with a budget of about $10 million for fiscal year 1991. Texas' tourism budget is funded solely by 0.5 percent of the state's 6 percent hotel and motel lodging tax.

She joined Virginia's Division of Tourism in 1974.
