GENE MUTATION LINKED TO CYSTIC FIBROSIS CASES

Scientists who are dissecting the gene that causes cystic fibrosis, the most common hereditary illness among Caucasians, have found a link between a particular mutation in the gene and the severity of the illness.

Researchers hope to use the new findings about the types of mutations in the gene and their distribution among different human populations to better understand how the defective gene causes cystic fibrosis and to devise improved treatments.
