C. Jefferson Stafford, age 51, of Pearisburg, died at his home Tuesday, July
24, 1990, following a long illness. He was born on April 20, 1939 in Giles
County, and was the son of the late Chester Jefferson Stafford and Elizabeth
Painter Stafford. Mr. Stafford, an attorney, served in the Virginia House of
Delegates since 1971. He was a second ranking Republican in seniority and
served on the House of General Laws, Privileges and Elections, Nomination and
Confirmations, and Finance Committees. He was a graduate of the College of
William and Mary, and the University of Virginia School of Law. Mr. Stafford
served in the United States Army in Korea as a company commander, and was a
captain in the United States Army Reserve. He was a member of the Pearisburg
Jaycees, Pearisburg Lions Club, Pearisburg Moose Lodge, American Legion, Giles
Masonic Lodge #106 AF&AM, and the Kazim Shrine Club. He was a member of the
Pearisburg First United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara
Morris Stafford of Pearisburg; two daughters, Elizabeth Painter Stafford, and
Mary Pendleton Stafford, both of the home; one stepson, Christopher Mann of
Pearisburg; one sister, Mrs. Betsy S. Elliott of Springfield, Va. Funeral
services will be conducted Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Pearisburg First
United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Warren Stewart officiating. Burial will
be in Birchlawn Burial Park. A luncheon will follow at the church for
out-of-town guests. The family will receive friends at the Givens Funeral Home
Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American
Cancer Society.
