BILL MURRAY WILL STAR IN MOVIE FILMED AT LAKE

Smith Mountain Lake will be the setting this fall for a movie featuring Bill Murray as a man who pesters his psychiatrist at the doctor's summer lake house, an official said.

Agreements were finished Tuesday for Walt Disney to begin filming the movie "What About Bob?" in September, said Elizabeth Parcell, executive director of the Smith Mountain Lake Policy Advisory Board.

"We're just so excited about this. It's such a big deal," Parcell said.

Parcell said the filming will take place at a Roanoke couple's summer house on the Franklin County side of the lake. Filming also will be done at the Elks Home in Bedford and in New York City, she said.

Film crews will start at the lake first, because they want to finish shooting before the leaves turn colors, she said.

Parcell said the Virginia Film Office in Richmond contacted her several months ago about the possibility of making a movie at the lake.

"They got in touch with me a long time ago about another film that didn't work out, but in this case they kept asking for more information and I kept sending them more," she said.

Parcell said she did not know how long the filming will take.
