UMW MEMBER FREED AFTER WEEK OF PROTEST

A United Mine Workers member whose jail sentence prompted protest demonstrations for a week around the Buchanan County Jail has been freed on $1,000 bond.

Tommy Cole had appealed a General District Court conviction June 4 of throwing jackrocks onto a road, but the Circuit Court jury could not reach a decision Monday. The case has been reset for Oct. 22.
