ARMED GROUP ATTACKS YOUNG FRENCH JEWS

Several men armed with baseball bats attacked a group of Jewish youths before dawn today in the chic Opera district of the capital, police sources and a French news agency reported.

A wave of anti-Semitic vandalism followed the desecration in May of a Jewish cemetery in Carpentras, where a corpse was dug up. The incidents shocking the country and drew loud denunciations from most political leaders about a perceived rise of anti-Semitic and anti-immigrant feeling in France.
