UNION OFFICIAL FILES $50,000 BUS SUIT

The president of a local union on strike against Greyhound Bus Lines is claiming in a lawsuit that he was struck by a bus as he picketed the Roanoke terminal.

Joe Thomas Wilson is asking for $50,000 in a lawsuit filed Wednesday in Roanoke Circuit Court.

The suit states that Wilson, president of the local chapter of the Amalgamated Transit Union, was struck by the bus as he picketed the terminal March 5.

Wilson claims in his suit that the bus was speeding and that its driver acted negligently - bumping him in the leg as the bus entered the terminal.

However, the bus driver said at the time that a group of strikers approached his slowly moving bus and then staged an accident.

"One of the drivers came over very calmly and very deliberately and bumped his shoulder into the bus and pretended he was hurt," the driver said.
