\ CARL AMOS JR. has been hired as a full-time outreach specialist by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing. He formerly taught English at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. Amos, son of Christine Crutchfield Amos and Carl L. Amos Sr. of Roanoke, holds a master's degree from New York University.
\ HOLLY TALIAFERRO has joined the Roanoke Kelly Assisted Living office as a supervisor. Prior to joining Kelly Assisted Living, Taliaferro was an assistant manager with a realty management company.
\ WILLIAMS SUPPLY COMPANY and NOLAND COMPANY, both of Roanoke, have been named to the President's Business Council by Siemens Energy & Automation, Inc. Both were recognized as distributors of excellence for their sales growth as well as achievements in business planning and market development during 1989.
\ G. LYN HAYTH III, vice president of the Bank of Buchanan, was among 316 bankers receiving graduation certificates from the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University.

\ LEONARD E. HUFFMAN captured the grand champion trophy, with the highest overall score of the competitors, at the 1990 Virginia Truck Driving Championships. The annual safe-driving competition is sponsored by the Virginia Truck Association.
Driving for W.H.P.T. Trucking Company of Roanoke, Huffman was also the first-place winner in the five-axle van class.
\ PAT OAKES has completed training as a Welcome Wagon representative. Oakes will call on new residents, engaged persons, new parents and new citizens to present household gifts from local businesses and professionals. As a community service, she also will distribute information for many civic and cultural groups and government agencies.
\ ERLENE REYNOLDS, a beauty consultant at the Valley View Mall branch of Leggett, was named a winner of the 1989 national "Elizabeth Arden Dream Vacation Contest." Reynolds, of Roanoke, won the seven-day Caribbean cruise for her performance in achieving special contest sales goals set by Elizabeth Arden.\ U.S. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY EMPLOYEES were presented Department of the Interior honor awards.
\ THOMAS G. ROSS, son of Mary C. Ross of Roanoke, has received a superior award from the U.S. Department of the Interior. The award is for Ross' work in getting out information on hydrologic conditions throughout the nation to Congress, other federal agencies and the public.
DILLARD PAPER CO. has announced the Roanoke winners of its 1989 Chairman's Council and its President's Council. John Gilliam and Dallas Peoples were named to the Chairman's Council, a group of salesmen who produce an annual gross profit above the minimum requirement set by the company chairman.
David Bousman, Dick Oliver, and Allen Jones were named to the President's Council, which recognizes the top sales producers in each Dillard sales region.
