\ CHILHOWIE - Miss Ruth Marie Echols, age 85, died Wednesday in the Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie. She was a graduate of Carson Newman College. She taught for 30 years at Oak Hill Academy, 6 years at Riverside School. This past year she made a contribution to Oak Hill Academy establishing a scholarship fund to assist academy teachers in continued education. She was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church and taught a ladies Sunday School class as long as her health permitted. She has always had a love for missions and was active in the Womens Missionary Union Organizations. She is survived by one brother, Vance Blake Echols, Chilhowie; one sister, Mrs Virginia E. Porter, Chilhowie; also two nieces and three nephews. Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Riverside Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Andrews officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ruth Echols Fellowship Fund at Oak Hill Academy, Office of the President, Mouth of Wilson, VA. 24363 or to the Riverside Baptist Church Memorial Fund or Building Fund or Riverside Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday at the Williams Funeral Home. Body will be taken to the church one hour before services.
