The Roanoke County research and development center is into a slowdown and stretch-out period, said Ed Donoho, business manager. The layoff brings the center's employment down to about 95, he said Thursday.
"It looks like it will be 1 1/2 to 2 years before we're back up again," Donoho said.
The center makes microchips used by the armed services and other branches of the government, such as the Central Intelligence Agency.
It is next door to ITT's plant that makes night-vision goggles for military agencies. That plant has laid off about 240 employees because the company failed to win a recent contract. - Staff report
