SERVICE CUTS OPPOSED BY POSTAL COMMISSION

The U.S. Postal Service decided to cut back some service standards on Saturday despite opposition from the independent Postal Rate Commission.

The commission said on Thursday it opposes national implementation of the plan, which would change some areas from overnight to second-day delivery.

In its opinion the commission said it opposed the changes on a national basis because it did not think the market research on which the Postal Service based its decision accurately measured customer preferences.
