CELEBRITY DONATIONS OFFERED AT AUCTION

Items from more than 90 celebrities will be auctioned Aug. 5 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Campbell Ford Used Car Mall to benefit the Southwest Virginia Emergency Medical Services Council.

The 140-plus items are from sports figures, musicians, television and movie stars and others. The council is the non-profit agency that coordinates the emergency medical services system in Southwest Virginia.

One item is an autographed caricature of TV weatherman Willard Scott, by Abingdon artist Michael Wartella. Another is a vest signed by race car drivers Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Kenny Wallace, Benny Parsons, Jack Ingram, Alan Kulwicki, Steve Grissom, Jimmy Henley, Brad Teague and L.D. Ollinger. There also will be the bent hood of a race car driven by Harry Gant.

Autographed scripts of Tom Brokaw's "NBC Nightly News" and Alan Alda's Emmy Award-winning episode of "M*A*S*H," a crystal Mickey Mouse perfume bottle from Walt Disney Co., poster from Joan Baez, keychain from Jane Pauley, limited-edition print from Ronnie McDowell, music book from Paul McCartney, scripts from "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Empty Nest," and a poster autographed by the Super Bowl winning San Francisco 49ers also will be up for bids.

Willie Mays donated an autographed baseball.
