TECH OPENS AGAINST VMI IN BASKETBALL

Virginia Tech opens its 1990-91 regular-season college basketball schedule with a home game against VMI on Saturday, Nov. 24, the university announced Thursday.

The basketball game is the same day the Hokies' football team plays host to Virginia at Lane Stadium. The football game begins at 1 p.m. and the basketball game follows at 5 p.m.

The Hokies will play Virginia in basketball on Jan. 23 at Richmond Coliseum.

Coach Frankie Allen's Hokies are scheduled to play 27 regular-season games, then serve as host to the Metro Conference Championship Tournament for the first time at the Roanoke Civic Center from March 7-9.

Virginia Tech's 1990-91 basketball schedule:

Nov. 13 - Marathon Oil (exhibition); 21 - Swedish National Team at Salem (exhibition); 24 - VMI; 28 - James Madison.

Dec. 1 - William and Mary; 8 - at Old Dominion; 11 - at Virginia Commonwealth; 22 - at George Washington; 28-29 - Times-Dispatch tournament at Richmond (VCU, Old Dominion and Richmond).

Jan. 3 - at Marshall; 5 - Memphis State; 10 - Tulane; 12 - Southern Mississippi; 16 - at South Carolina; 19 - at Cincinnati; 23 - Virginia at Richmond; 26 - Florida State; 30 - at Louisville.

Feb. 2 - at West Virginia; 4 - Richmond; 7 - at Southern Mississippi; 9 - at Tulane; 13 - Louisville; 16 - Cincinnati; 19 - Maryland; 23 - at Florida State; 27 - South Carolina.
