HALSEY, FLORENCE D.

Florence Davis Halsey, age 89, died Thursday, July 26, 1990 in the Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, Va. Mrs. Halsey was born in 1900 in Wythe County, the daughter of William T. and Permelia Anne Davis. She was the widow of Carl Cecil Halsey, Sr. She was preceded in death by three sisters, Roxie Davis, Edith Blankenship, Edna Buchanan; and four brothers, Henry Millard, William and Russell Davis. Mrs. Halsey was a retired food service worker at George Wythe High School of Wytheville and the former owner of White Front Cafe, a Wytheville Restaurant. She was a resident of Asbury Center at Birdmont in Wytheville. The survivors include two daughters, Gladys Halsey Alvis of Hillsville; Mrs. Basil B. (Helen) Gordon of Wytheville; two sons, James William Halsey of Clinton, Tenn.; and Carl Cecil Halsey, Jr. of Orange Park, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Odell (Nellie) Hoback of Wytheville; and Mrs. Luther (Bessie) Felty of Wytheville; ten grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 29 in the St. Lukes Lutheran Church in the Cove Section of Wythe County. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, or at anytime at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Basil Gordon, at 450 Rolling Hills Drive, Wytheville. Memorials can be made to the St. Lukes Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund. Barnett Funeral Home is in charge of the funeral arrangements.
