Margaret Buford Garrett, age 93, of Route 1, died Thursday, July 26, 1990, in the Richfield Nursing Center in Salem. She was born in Bedford County June 1, 1897, a daughter of the late James Otey Buford and Mary Luck Buford. She was the widow of Robert Guy Garrett, Sr., She was a retired school teacher with 45 years of service to the Bedford County Public Schools and to Otterburn Academy. She was a member of Montvale United Methodist Church. She is survived by her son, Robert G. Garrett, Jr., Roanoke; grandchildren, Margaret and Danny Gills, Susan and Ray Byrd, Roanoke; Barbara and Robert G. Garrett, III, Laura and Robert Wiley, Richmond; Cynthia Jane Garrett, Athens, Ga.; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Katherine G. Sjogren, Bedford. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Walnut Grove Union Church with the Rev. James F. Riach and the Rev. William P. Combs officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests those wishing to make memorials consider the cemetery fund at Walnut Grove Union Church. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Saturday at the Carder-Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
