James Kendall Bess, age 19, died Thursday, July 26, 1990, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a graduate of L. C. Byrd High School in Chesterfield. Surviving are his parents, William Rodney and Carolyn Keffer Bess; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Justin Ada Bess, David Wayne and Elizabeth C. Bess, all of Chesterfield; maternal grandmother, Margaret Keffer, Blacksburg; paternal grandparents, Claude and Ima Bess, Blacksburg; his great-grandmother, Mary Grissom, Blacksburg; uncles, aunts, and cousins. Funeral services will be Sunday, July 29, 1:00 p.m. at Blacksburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Eugene Chafin officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The L. C. Byrd High School to be used in the L. D. Program. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home in Blacksburg.
