FIRST BRANDS TO OPEN AMHERST PLANT

First Brands Corp. of Danbury, Conn., announced Friday that it will build a $25 million manufacturing and distribution facility in Amherst County.

First Brands is the maker of Glad and Glad-Lock plastic bags and wrap.

The company will acquire a 69-acre tract 12 miles north of Lynchburg to construct the facility.

The plant will provide 75 to 100 jobs. Construction plans are not final, but engineering for the building and plans for site preparation will begin immediately, the company said. First Brands also manufactures and sells Prestone antifreeze, STP oil and fuel additives and Simoniz waxes and polishes.
