Leskanic, who missed two months with an injury to his right (pitching) shoulder, raised his record to 2-5 in extending the Bucs' losing streak to 11 games, just two away from the team record set in 1982.
He retired the first 10 batters before Bruce Schreiber singled with one out in the fourth. Salem loaded the bases in the inning with two out, but Leskanic got Darwin Pennye to line out to the shortstop for the final out.
Bucs starter Antonio Felix (0-1), just recalled from the Mexico City Reds, couldn't find the plate, walking four and committing a key error in the first inning as Kinston scored three runs.
Kinston scored its other run in the eighth against Mike Pomeranz, who gave up a single to Ken Ramos, a walk to Lindsay Foster and a single to Jim Thome to load the bases. After Tim Costo struck out, Marc Tepper hit into a fielder's choice to score Ramos.
Tim Wakefield (5-11, 4.94 ERA) will start tonight as the Bucs begin a three-game series at Peninsula.
