AKERS, SOLOMON B.

Solomon Byron (Chub) Akers, 75, died Saturday morning in the Pulaski Community Hospital. He was born March 30, 1915, in Marion, Va., and was the son of the late James L. Akers and Callie Newland Akers. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Army Railroad Battalion and was retired from Norfolk and Western Railway having served for over forty years. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 1067, Pulaski, and the Thornspring Golf Club. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Eller Akers and a brother, Wilson (Bill) Akers. Surviving are three brothers, Irving N. Akers and Woodrow Akers, both of Rural Retreat; Claude L. Akers of Texas City, Texas; two nieces, Joedy Leimer, Galveston, Texas; Billie Ann Mahoney of Dickinson, Texas; and two nephews, Frank I. Akers, Roanoke; and Donald L. Akers, Austin, Texas. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Steven Ridenhour officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Sunday with the family receiving friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. The family suggests memorials be made to the Heart Association. Stevens Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
