RUDD NIXES RUMOR HE'LL SWITCH TEAMS

Ricky Rudd quickly extinguished a rumor that raced through the garage area at Talladega Superspeedway on Friday.

Rudd said Saturday that there was nothing to reports that he would leave his Hendrick Motorsports team to replace Bobby Hillin on the Stavola Brothers' team next season.

"First of all, I am happy where I am, and there would be no reason for me to go anywhere else," Rudd said.

"I also have a contract to drive for the Hendrick team next season, and I will honor that commitment."

Rudd admitted he had been approached by other teams, but he refused to name them.

"My reply to them was that I already have a contract for next year with Hendrick Motorsports," Rudd said.

Harry Gant also ended speculation about his plans by announcing he had signed a new two-year contract with his current team, owned by Leo Jackson.

Gant, 50, became the oldest driver to win a Winston Cup race with his June victory at Pocono.

"I had received offers from some other teams, and it is nice to know that you are wanted when you are this old," Gant said.

"But it took only a couple of minutes for me and Leo to agree that we wanted to stay together for the next two years."

Davey Allison flew to Charlotte, N.C., Friday morning to attend funeral services for Raymond Fox Jr., 47, an engine builder for his team who died on Monday.

A memorial service for Fox was held at the Talladega Superspeedway.

Fox was remembered as the person who built the engine Darrell Waltrip used to win his first race in 1975, and the engine builder for Richard Petty's 200th career victory in 1984.

On Thursday, Allison used the last engine Fox built to win the outside pole for today's DieHard 500.
