EDITORIALS TRY TO DISCREDIT COUNTY

YOUR EDITORIAL writers are a real trip! We in Roanoke County shake our heads and laugh over your continued efforts to discredit our locality to gain support for your hallowed RMG (Raise Money Government).

Let me assure you, your efforts are not working. In fact, you are creating a large amount of distrust and ill will toward your newspaper.

Your latest effort was an attempt to discredit our outstanding volunteer fire department. You would have us believe that a consolidated government may have meant the saving of lives last December.

Hogwash! That is a typical editorial cheap shot, and you know it. You seem so flustered because we have not gotten your "consolidation fever" that you can't stand it.

You realize that your paper has media clout and that Warner, Bev and the rest of the downtown boys have money clout. But what seems to perturb you so is that your one vote in November will count the same as our one vote. Yes, we average folks will decide consolidation regardless of all the editorials and all the downtown money. You cannot seem to accept that fact.

I hope your publisher will look over the issues of the past eight months and see all your attempts to put down Roanoke County in a manner to promote your views on consolidation. And also look at all the attempts to build up the city for the same purpose. (Yes, fellows, I know that's been hard at times, especially when you tried to make the city school's test scores look good.) If Rugaber will do that with an open mind, I think he may be amazed at the biased nature of your writing. J.L. ANDERSON ROANOKE
