NO OFFICERS MISSING, DESPITE DISTRESS CALL

Police in Northern Virginia called off a search for an unknown person, possibly a law-enforcement officer, who said he had been fired upon after stopping a car.

The seven-hour search ended about 3 a.m. Sunday after authorities from several jurisdictions counted their officers and determined no one was missing, state police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said Sunday.
