FRANKLIN ROAD BRIDGE TO CLOSE THIS WEEKEND FOR MORE REPAIR WORK

The Franklin Road bridge over the Norfolk and Western Railway tracks in Southwest Roanoke will be closed this weekend while construction crews do repair work on the bridge deck.

The bridge will be closed from 9 p.m. Friday until 7 a.m. Monday.

It will be the second weekend in recent weeks the bridge has been closed and another closing is planned in late August.

Signs will be posted alerting motorists to the closing and the detour.

Northbound traffic on Franklin Road can travel east on Reserve Avenue to Jefferson Street and then north on Jefferson to Williamson Road, which intersects with Franklin Road near downtown.

Southbound traffic on Franklin can follow the same detour in reverse order.
