YOUTH CONVICTED IN CRACK SMUGGLING

A 17-year-old involved in a plot to smuggle crack cocaine on a bus from New York and sell it in Roanoke was convicted Monday of conspiracy to distribute cocaine.

Anthony Jerome Johnson was convicted in Roanoke Circuit Court.

A judge in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court had ruled earlier this year that Johnson should be tried as an adult. Although he will face up to 40 years in prison when he is sentenced, a Circuit Court judge also could sentence Johnson as a juvenile.

Johnson was arrested Jan. 19 with two other youths, ages 18 and 19, as they stepped off a Greyhound bus at the Roanoke terminal.
