COMMUTER FLIGHTS: COFFEE, TEA OR STAND-UP COMEDY?

Stand-up comedians and business lecturers will entertain passengers on Continental Express flights next month between Detroit and Cleveland.

The 30-passenger flights, which take 45 minutes from gate to gate, spend 17 minutes in the air, too little time for travelers to accomplish serious business, Continental Express spokesman Steve Mason said.

Business executives from Cleveland and Detroit will give the lectures on mornings flights from Aug. 6-10. Topics will include illiteracy in the workplace and trends in radio and television, said carrier spokeswoman Nancy Compel.

Professional comedians will entertain during afternoon flights the same week.

The entertainment, on flights between Cleveland and Detroit City Airport, won't increase the $280 round-trip price, Compel said. Continental Express is the commuter division of Continental Airlines.

"We're doing it to call attention to the fact that Continental has the service," Compel said.
