PAIR FROM FLORIDA SOUGHT IN HILLSVILLE MOTEL BEATING

Police searched Monday for two 18-year-old men in connection with a Friday morning beating and robbery at a Carroll County motel.

The Carroll County Sheriff's Department obtained warrants Sunday night charging Robert Anthony Foglia and Christopher John Vincent, both of the Pompano Beach, Fla., area with attempted capital murder and robbery.

Garner Franklin Bowman, 59, who was beaten during Friday morning's robbery at the Townhouse Motel in Hillsville, remained in critical condition Monday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C. He is the husband of the motel's manager.

Bowman's 1977 Ford Econoline van, license TJ73016, which was taken during the robbery, remained missing, the Sheriff's Department said.

Sometime between midnight and 9 a.m. Friday, Bowman was attacked and the motel's bank bag stolen after Bowman apparently went to a motel guest room to help two guests who were complaining of a stopped-up toilet, according to the account of police and a relative.

Sheriff Dick Carrico would not discuss what led to the identification of the two suspects. "We followed a lot of good leads," he said.
