MCI blamed the decline in profits on a half-billion dollar investment in updated digital switching equipment.
The nation's second-largest long-distance company listed 1990 earnings at $270 million, or $1.06 per share, down 48.9 percent from $529 million, or $2.09 per share for 1989. Revenue was $7.68 billion, up from $6.47 billion in 1989.
For the quarter ending Dec. 31, MCI reported earnings of $120 million, up 19 percent. Revenues for the period totaled just over $2 billion, a 17 percent increase. - Associated Press
